Visit by Hetty Verolme, Shoah survivor
In April 2015, within the framework of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Bergen-Belsen, Hetty (Werkendam) Verolme (Z¨L), an educator and survivor of Nazi terror, visited our Kehilah in Seville. She had been deported from Amsterdam to that concentration camp in 1943 at the age of 13. Hetty shared with us her memories and wisdom, which she later captured in adulthood in the book “The Children’s House of Belsen”, with the aim of raising awareness about the Holocaust while also conveying a message of hope and vigilance to prevent history from repeating itself.
